Watching Elephants in their natural habitat with their families was a joy and totally got the message of both the love and the protective nature of some of the herd, so wanted to showcase both in this Diptych. When you see an Elephant calf, the Mumma is always close by. When designing this one I ran some of the Acrylic paint over the drawing as well as behind it so you get a real sense of her keeping an eye on baby sometimes a little hidden maybe.
You can almost feel the Mumma’s smile.

I wanted to viewer to feel that the animals were truly part of the landscape, their natural habitat- unfiltered. So, I played with spray paint and acrylic paint until I got the background I wanted and from there decided to add the animal simply and directly with professional pens. After that came the gold leaf just to emphasise the rich gold in front of us; that of the landscape and animal itself, we must protect.
